Marsha Farrell, BSN, PMGT-BC, CHPN
Marsha Farrell grew up in North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979 with a BSN in nursing. Her journey in nursing over the past 43 years has included surgical, public health, home health, oncology, and lastly hospice/palliative care nursing with an emphasis on pain management. She says that her “true calling” came in 2003 when her home-health background and oncology experience melded together and led her to hospice care.
Marsha began Marsha Farrell Care Consulting, LLC in January 2016 with a desire to promote excellence in pain management and end-of-life care through education, speaking engagements, and patient care consults. She is nationally board certified as both a Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) and a Pain Management Nurse (PMGT-BC.) She served as a selected volunteer on HPNA’s RN Professional Development Advisory Council from 2017 to 2019. Currently, Marsha is National Faculty for HPNA’s CHPN Review Course and enjoys meeting hospice/palliative nurses from around the country.
Prior to forming her company, Marsha served 10 years as the Education Institute Coordinator for Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, AL where she honed her speaking and teaching skills with nurses, social workers, medical students, medical residents, and laymen.
Marsha is the recipient of the 2008 Excellence in Symptom Management Award sponsored by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and was the co-editor/editor of the ONS Pain Sig Newsletter from 2009- to 2016.
She speaks at state, national and international conferences and is popular with participants because of her engaging and interactive presentations. Besides topics on end-of-life and pain management, Marsha presents motivational talks on living intentionally and self-care.
FYI: Her FAVORITE role however is being “Grandma” to five wonderful granddaughters: Zelda, Ruby, Nadia, Alice, and April.
